Choosing a good hotel when you’re on a trip to in Portsmouth, NH isn’t typically straightforward, since you have so much choice! Obviously, you can decide upon something out of the same Portsmouth travel guide which everybody and their cousin has owned during the last five years, but that does not imply you’ll have a very nice experience (actually, it may practically promise a lousy one!). Alternatively, it is a smart idea to do a tiny bit of exploration, making use of your pal the Internet. Locals will always know the most reliable hotels in their own city, just what the best rooms are, and the most popular days to go to their chosen parts of the city. But you do not want to be going up to anyone you happen across in the airport in Portsmouth, requesting their hints and tips. So instead, we’ve compiled a brief listing of our 3 most-loved hotels in Portsmouth for you. These are the ones we recommend to our family when they return to visit – but as we don’t want you to think we’re just being biased, the following are the reviews from Yelp.com:

1. Ale House Inn

Great place. Had everything we needed and wanted. We ended up staying an extra night so we got to try out both room sizes. The king suite was big enough for a dance party and the smaller one was perfect for watching movies in bed. The keurig / ipad came in super handy and Scott (the concierge) is a super cool dude.

We definitely enjoyed our stay here. A little more pricey then some others, but you get what you pay for here. The front desk was nice, and they seemed pretty willing to help with any requests that we had. The rooms were really clean, and seemed fairly updated, including a large bathroom. The lobby is also large and welcoming. They have a nice bar and restaurant if you don’t care to venture out for some reason, or you want a late night drink. This hotel is located within walking distance to down town, which is great. I would stay here again, and would recommend it to anyone.

I’ve never actually stayed at the Portsmouth Sheraton, but I’ve worked from there. Staff is very helpful, the internet is fast (big plus) and the breakfast is very good. I had the smoked salmon plate, I normally like my Salmon more pink that it was, but it was very good.
All the guests with us also had great breakfasts. We’ve had some not great dinners but overall a very good place and you can’t beat the view!
